Lead Marketing Designer

United States (remote)

Overview

Whether you binge-watch a series on Netflix, plan faraway vacations from your phone, or read international news online, you’ve likely used Apollo’s technology this week. Apollo supports some of the largest GraphQL platforms in the world. We’re not looking to rest on our laurels though — we’re aiming to change how software is built. Apollo wants to empower every software team to build an amazing user experience across any number of clients, without dealing with a barrage of API endpoints.

Apollo is looking for a design leader to help forge a brand experience that both informs and delights customers. Design isn’t just about typefaces and color schemes. It helps define an identity and purpose for a company. So we want someone with a sense of ownership who can help communicate our values and vision to the world

This role is very hands-on but will require you to manage contractors, so bear this in mind.

Equal to all of that, Apollo is intent on becoming the company where you can see your career grow through challenging work, collaborating with incredible teammates, and accomplishing the unattainable.

What you’ll do

  • Bring consistency and scalability to the Apollo brand. Apollo recently worked with a developer-friendly agency to build our visual identity. We hope you like it! We need a designer who can leverage this brand system and visual language to help deliver concepts and designs for ads, websites, content, marketing campaigns, partner materials, events, social media, and internal and external brand assets, including sales pitch decks.
  • Build a visual language to explain our product. Diagrams sell – plain and simple. As Apollo’s design leader, you will work with Product Marketing to create diagrams that explain our product in a simple but precise way, and then work to drive this consistency and repeatability across assets.
  • Manage our creative agencies. We don’t expect that you can ship every single asset required. But every asset should get your stamp of approval before shipping.
  • Help build the marketing user experience. Work with our dev team to build reusable webpage templates, as well as map out the information architecture across our web properties.
  • Work cross-functionally with Product Design to develop a brand and experience that Apollo users, customers, and employees are truly proud of.

Who you are

  • You have designed marketing websites and collateral for enterprise developer tools brands before.
  • You love cutting copy by creating simple but meaningful diagrams and icons.
  • You value good information architecture and will back up your ideas with both qualitative and quantitative data.
  • You thrive on cross-functional collaboration but will also come with a point of view to ensure that Apollo’s brand is represented effectively at all times.
  • You are comfortable being accountable for hands-on work as well as the work you delegate to others.
  • Strong experience using Figma is required for this role.
  • Strong experience working designing in Google Slides.

Nice to have

  • Past coding experience is a plus.
  • Bonus points if you’ve worked somewhere that used GraphQL and especially GraphQL federation.
  • Past startup experience is a plus.
