In this role, you’ll be a key contributor to our Platform Engineering team. You'll get the chance to hone your skills alongside some of the best Platform Engineers (think SRE meets Ops with a heavy focus on automation of everything). Our team’s current focus is on Service Delivery (Kubernetes), Infrastructure Management (Terraform), CI/CD (Argo, Atlantis), and in general all things SLOs and Operational Excellence. Your teammates are talented folks who value code that is 80% of the value for 20% of the work, designs that are forward-thinking enough to be easily flexible for the next features, and leadership with a healthy dose of mindfulness and humility.

ABOUT THE TEAM AND THE ROLE

Today, GraphQL is rapidly emerging as the next generation API technology of choice to unify data access across a wide range of data sources and deliver business value. Apollo’s GraphOS platform helps API platform developers around the world build and operate their data access layers, at scale. It is used in production by some of today's largest and most innovative companies including Netflix, Expedia, Peloton, DoorDash, The New York Times, Zillow, and many more. GraphOS fundamentally democratizes data and accelerates business transformation. Our Graph Data Plane organization owns the critical tier of GraphOS - Core Router and Apollo Federation - the underlying engine powering GraphOS, making it a highly performant, secure, governed, and reliable self-service GraphQL platform. We are looking for an experienced engineering leader who can lead this critical pillar of Apollo’s engineering team to help deliver a delightful GraphOS platform for our users. 

This is an opportunity to deeply partner with the Engineering leadership team to envision the strategy over the next 18-24 months, design and deliver against our roadmap and hone the craft of our Graph Data Plane engineering team through user impact and results.

In this high-impact role, you’ll be a leader on our Platform Engineering team. You'll help foster our best Platform Engineers (think SRE meets Ops with a heavy focus on automation of everything) setting a consistent example for how we lead projects and how we maintain our documents, dashboards, and code bases. Our team’s current focus is on Service Delivery (Kubernetes), Infrastructure Management (Terraform), CI/CD (Argo, Atlantis), and in general all things SLOs and Operational Excellence. Your teammates are talented folks who value code that is 80% of the value for 20% of the work, designs that are forward-thinking enough to be easily flexible for the next features, and leadership with a healthy dose of mindfulness and humility.

We’re helping organizations deploy supergraphs at scale using Apollo Federation. Are you passionate about language engineering and understand what it takes to write a compiler or a query planner? If so, we’d love to talk to you about joining us in building next-generation GraphQL infrastructure.

With more and more GraphQL APIs being deployed by product teams in organizations, building and organizing subgraphs into a supergraph is crucial in helping engineers quickly build new apps. In this role, you’ll critically impact architecting new query language features. You will lead initiatives and guide other developers, partnering with your engineering manager, product, design, and others to deliver best-in-class products that span our entire platform. You’ll work with talented folks who value code that is 80% of the value for 20% of the work, designs that are forward-thinking enough to be easily flexible for the next features and lead through ambiguity with a healthy dose of mindfulness and humility. You’ll help them grow and they’ll help you.
