March 18, 2026
@9:30 AM PT | 12:30 PM ET | 6:30 PM CET
Ready to take your GraphQL skills to the next level? In this hands-on workshop, you'll go from zero to a fully running federated graph in your local environment.
We'll walk through the core concepts of Apollo Federation using a real-world banking demo, so you can see how federation works in practice without having to design schemas from scratch. By the end of the session, you'll have Apollo Router running locally with multiple subgraphs connected, and you'll execute a query that spans those subgraphs seeing federation in action firsthand.
Along the way, we'll cover:
How entities work in a federated graph and why they matter
Key federation directives including @key and @shareable
An introduction to @external and @requiresScopes for more advanced use cases
This workshop is designed for developers who already have a foundation in GraphQL and are ready to explore federated GraphQL. Whether you're evaluating Apollo Federation for your organization or looking to deepen your understanding, you'll leave with a working local environment and the concepts to build on it.
